Metal Free - All Ceramic Dental Implants
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants may be an option for people who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason.
The most common type of dental implants placed are made of titanium. This material has been implemented in various orthopedic medical procedures for years and is well established as safe and predictable in the body. While most patients would benefit from titanium implants, there may be a rare instance where an individual has a specific intolerance or sensitivity to titanium and metals. This type of reaction is very difficult to test for. There are also select patients with autoimmune medical conditions who are also not ideal candidates for titanium implants.
Fortunately, the clinicians at Puget Sound Periodontics are also trained in the placement of non-metal, all ceramic (Zirconia) dental implants. These can serve as a great alternative to the titanium implants and are 100% metal free.
